Pleasure craft made in Canada, or imported to Canada, after August 1, 1981, must have a HIN marking. The HIN must be on the outside of the transom on the starboard side, or as close to that area as possible if marking on the transom is not practical. If you can no longer obtain a HIN from the manufacturer, or if the vessel is home-built, request an application package from a Transport Canada Centre to obtain one.

A jet ski is part water skiing device and part speedboat, with a definite hint of motorcycle during operation. Instead of the traditional propeller or screw motor, a jet ski uses an enclosed gas-powered motor to literally push water out in a jet stream. The jet ski operator straddles a central platform and assumes a shock-absorbing posture with knees slightly bent. The motor is electronically started with a toggle switch located in a column in front of the driver. All jet ski models should also have a dead man's switch -- a connection between the driver and ignition system which should kill the motor instantly if the driver falls off.

RIB or sometimes known as RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) is a craft with a rigid hull and inflatable tube around the top. Inflatables can be moved and carried easily to their place of use, ribs may require a trailer. Most inflatables can be put together, inflated and ready to use in a short time. They have excellent performance, handling and versatility and are known to be very safe. They are made in a range of sizes from about 3 metres(10 feet) for a tender type, up to around 9 metres (30 feet) for an large offshore boat. Non-EU Yachts In Greece?

Does anyone have current experience of this charge for sailing yachts that visit Greece? I have just been told that there is a huge fee to pay, based on L.O.A x beam, if your boat stays longer than 3 months. This is not mentioned in the Imray Greek Waters Pilot, edition 9.

"We are back in Nelson after departing for Australia and running into considerable trouble. Here's what happened. Ken, Graeme our crew, and I finished with New Zealand Customs at about 9:00 am on Thursday, April 12 and headed out toward Farewell Spit headed to Sydney, Australia in calm conditions. The predicted forecast was for a 15 knot winds building throughout the day until Friday afternoon when 30kts and 3 meter swells were expected to peak and then ease late that night with westerlies to15 kts on Saturday".

How Do You Mark Your sailing yacht's Anchor Chain?

I thought it would be interesting to hear about the various methods used to mark anchor chain on a sailing yacht. I have seen a very effective method of having cable-ties every 10 meters - one for 10m. 2 for 20m, etc.
